The objective of our case study review was to analyze and understand the dental treatment plan for a 71-year-old female patient with extensive restorations and worn-out crowns. Despite challenges with limited radiographic images, our collaborative approach allowed us to thoroughly review the periodontal assessments and proposed treatments. We learned the importance of flexibility in treatment planning, particularly in adapting to the patient’s medical history and special needs. Additionally, we recognized the value of comprehensive assessments and effective teamwork, which enhanced our problem-solving skills and understanding of clinical decision-making processes.
Our project aimed to research the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and its implications for dental clinicians. We learned about its signs, symptoms, transmission modes, and at-risk groups, emphasizing the importance of proper infection control in dental practice. A significant challenge was staying current with new vaccine information, as it was constantly evolving and required thorough verification. This project deepened our understanding of RSV and underscored the importance of ongoing research in maintaining accurate, up-to-date knowledge in healthcare.
This clinic class taught me professionalism, proper infection control, and essential tools for patient care. The challenges included learning and developing new skills, but the constant progress was encouraging. The "NCR" forms provided valuable feedback from professors, highlighting our progress and areas for improvement.
Understanding the significance of proper oral hygiene instructions and nutrition in dental care, I created a patient education book to serve as an effective educational tool. Challenges included simplifying complex information and structuring content efficiently. However, the project provided an opportunity for personal growth in communication skills and highlighted the rewarding impact of empowering patients with essential knowledge for better oral health.
Creating a brochure for individuals with kidney disease enabled me to delve into research and enhance my comprehension of this condition. The project's goal was to develop an informative resource to benefit patients and others seeking knowledge in this area. Additionally, crafting a theoretical case study involving a patient with lichen planus provided insights into adapting dental hygiene treatment based on specific clinical considerations. These projects fostered both my understanding of complex medical conditions and my ability to communicate vital information effectively.
This course challenged us to shift from typodont practice to direct patient care, fostering significant growth and inspiration with each clinical session. Despite initial hurdles, progress motivated us to adapt and enhance our clinical abilities. The "NCR" forms provided invaluable feedback, guiding our development. The patient summary revealed a prevalence of WLAC code 2-light cases with gingivitis, alongside one instance of stage II periodontitis among 8 patients aged 20 to 50 years, with some receiving only screenings and follow-up appointments.
This course emphasized understanding diabetes mellitus in dental hygiene treatment, highlighting the importance of managing hypoglycemic effects. The project aimed to create a skit and video to educate clinicians on effective management, with additional slides for deeper knowledge.
After a comprehensive assessment and treatment planning for a particular patient, I developed customized oral hygiene instructions to address their specific needs, aiming to empower them for better oral health. Despite time constraints, subsequent evaluations revealed significant improvements in the patient's oral care, highlighting the pivotal role of dental hygiene treatments for effective outcomes. This experience deepened my understanding of the critical importance of each aspect of dental services in enhancing individual patient care. Below is the research paper and video, along with the tailored pamphlet provided to the patient.
This class deepens my understanding of periodontal care, covering anatomy, physiology, and pathology to equip us for dental hygiene practice. The vast array of topics presents a learning challenge, but each session helps me grasp the complexities. Understanding host-bacterial interactions and disease mechanisms deepens my comprehension, while case studies prepare me for real-world scenarios.
